배달의민족 B마트 24시간 장보기에서 엿보는 ‘새벽배송’ 진출 가능성
1. 배민B마트가 ‘24시간 장보기’ 기능을 출시한 데 이어, 현재 해당 기능을 B마트 서비스 전 지역으로 확장한 것으로 확인됐습니다. 이로써 B마트 서비스 지역 내 배달의민족 이용자는 심야 시간에도 자유롭게 B마트 쇼핑 및 주문이 가능합니다.
2. B마트는 MFC(Micro Fulfillment Center, 도심 물류센터)를 기반으로 하여 신선식품, 가정간편식, 생필품 등 6000여종의 상품을 30분 내외로 배송해주는 국내 대표적인 퀵커머스 서비스입니다.
3. 2018년 ‘배민마켓’으로 출발한 B마트는 2019년 서비스명을 현재 이름으로 변경했고요. 서울·경기를 포함해 대전, 대구, 울산, 부산 등 전국 22개 도시에서 서비스 중입니다. 중간에 대구, 부산으로 진출했다가 약 한달 만에 철수한 적도 있었지만요. 지금은 부산에서만 4곳 이상의 MFC를 운영하고 있다죠.
4. 이 B마트가 365일 연중무휴 24시간 장보기 서비스를 시작한 것은 지난해 10월 25일부터입니다. 24시간 장보기는 출시 당시 일부 지역에 한하여 서비스했지만요. 지금은 B마트 서비스가 가능한 모든 지역에서 제공하고 있음을 우아한형제들 물류 자회사이자 B마트 운영사인 우아한청년들 측을 통해 확인했습니다.
5. 다만, B마트 24시간 장보기는 24시간 즉시배송을 의미하진 않습니다. B마트 주문 기능은 24시간 열려있지만요. 배달 서비스 자체는 기존 B마트 운영 시간이었던 오전 9시부터 밤 12시 사이에 1시간 단위로 희망 배달 시간을 예약하여 받을 수 있는 개념의 서비스이기 때문입니다.
6. 그러니까 B마트 24시간 장보기는 일종의 배달 예약이자 시간지정배송을 요청할 수 있는 기능이라고 볼 수 있고요. 기존 즉시배송 구조로 돌아가던 B마트에 새로운 주문 타임라인이 추가됐다는 것을 의미합니다.
7. 그런데 말이죠. 라스트마일 물류업계에서는 이러한 B마트의 24시간 장보기 전국 확장이 새벽배송, 나아가 24시간 즉시배송 서비스로 진출하기 위한 전초전이 될 것이라 해석하고 있었는데요. 왜 이런 이야기가 나오는지 커넥터스가 관련 내용을 취재했습니다.
“배민B마트 24시간 장보기는 자정부터 오전 9시까지 받은 예약 주문에 대해 배달 서비스 오픈 시간인 오전 9시부터 지정된 시간에 배달해 주는 서비스입니다. 고객들의 새벽 시간 미리 장보기 수요가 있어 이에 대응하기 위한 서비스고요. 새벽에 구매한 상품을 아침부터 저녁 사이 원하는 시간에 받아볼 수 있도록 고객 편의를 위해 기획됐습니다. 하여 24시간 장보기라고 해서 B마트 MFC를 기존과 다른 시간에 운영하는 것은 아니고요. 만약 고객이 오전 9시 배달로 예약했다면, 이를 MFC 오픈과 함께 조금 일찍 피킹·포장을 진행한다는 차이점 정도가 있겠습니다."
The Possibility of Entering 'Dawn Delivery' Glimpsed from Baedal Minjok's B-Mart 24-Hour Shopping Service
- Following the launch of the '24-Hour Shopping' feature by Baemin B-Mart, it has now been confirmed that this feature has been expanded to all areas served by B-Mart. This allows Baedal Minjok users in these areas to shop and place orders on B-Mart even during late-night hours.
- B-Mart is a leading quick-commerce service in South Korea, based on MFCs (Micro Fulfillment Centers) in urban areas, delivering over 6,000 types of products including fresh food, ready-to-eat meals, and daily necessities within about 30 minutes.
- Starting as 'Baemin Market' in 2018, B-Mart changed its service name to its current one in 2019. It operates in 22 cities nationwide, including Seoul and Gyeonggi, Daejeon, Daegu, Ulsan, and Busan. Although there were brief withdrawals from Daegu and Busan, B-Mart now operates more than four MFCs in Busan alone.
- B-Mart began its 365-day, 24-hour shopping service on October 25 last year. Initially launched in certain areas, the service is now available in all regions where B-Mart operates, confirmed by Woowa Brothers' logistics subsidiary and B-Mart operator, Woowa Youngsters.
- However, B-Mart's 24-hour shopping does not mean 24-hour immediate delivery. While the B-Mart ordering function is available 24/7, the delivery service itself operates within the original B-Mart hours from 9 AM to midnight, allowing customers to reserve their desired delivery time on an hourly basis.
- Therefore, B-Mart's 24-hour shopping can be seen as a feature for delivery reservation and scheduled delivery. It adds a new order timeline to the existing immediate delivery structure of B-Mart.
- Yet, there's talk in the last-mile logistics industry that B-Mart's nationwide expansion of its 24-hour shopping could be a preliminary step toward entering dawn delivery and ultimately 24/7 immediate delivery services. We have investigated why such discussions are emerging.
"Baemin B-Mart's 24-hour shopping service delivers orders made from midnight to 9 AM during the delivery service opening hours starting from 9 AM at the designated time. It's a service designed to meet the demand for early shopping during dawn hours, allowing customers to receive products purchased in the early morning at their preferred time from morning to evening.
Thus, the 24-hour shopping does not mean operating B-Mart MFCs at different times than usual. If a customer reserves a 9 AM delivery, the only difference would be starting the picking and packing a bit earlier with the opening of the MFC." - Woowa Bros.
